How I think about self-care as a psychotherapist by Dr. Munn Saechao, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist in Mountain View, CA and Online Therapist for Professional Women of Color

In order for me to be effective as a child, adolescent, and family psychotherapist, I have to prioritize taking care of myself.

One of my favorite self-care activities is running. In fact, running is so much better in the presence of great company. In order to increase exercise motivation I do something I enjoy and with people who nourish me.

Perhaps you can consider incorporating “fun” into your exercise? When we feel like we “should do something” because it’s good for our health, that’s often not a sufficient enough reason to exercise, hence why so many of us don’t exercise. However, when we experience immediate gratification such as “fun” while in the process of exercise, we are more motivated to exercise in general.

How can you prioritize yourself and incorporate more fun into your life?
