Therapy for Children

Therapy for children to reduce stress, improve happiness and focus

Does your child have a hard time with concentration, listening, following directions, regulating impulses, switching between tasks, planning, and organizing? Is your child often nervous, easily irritable, and self-critical? Perhaps your child would benefit from behavioral interventions to improve concentration, organization, and compliance? Or perhaps your child would benefit from learning coping skills and social skills to improve emotional regulation, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships? My goal as a child psychologist is to help children develop skillsets to navigate everyday tasks at school, home, and in the community. I believe that this type of learning and development begins through authentic connection, which starts with you taking the first step to connect with me. Now as a parent with a child with ADHD, anxiety, or depression, you might feel uncertain about contacting me. I want you to know that this is a normal experience. It’s often difficult for most parents to acknowledge that they need help with their children, and it can be incredibly anxiety evoking to allow a stranger to work closely with their child in confidence. Yet in my experience, parents who are willing to take a risk and seek therapy for their children often feel more relaxed and at ease knowing that their children are being emotionally supported and cared for by a caring professional. Although investing in counseling may feel costly, the benefits are often lifelong. Therapy is by nature supportive, educational, and empowering, which when experienced can significantly help nurture and develop a heathy sense of self to effectively navigate life’s challenges. Should you allow your child to go on this journey with me, I will do my very best to provide them with the best support and care. I will be with your child, guiding them through the process of change, and encouraging them along the way. While every child deserves to be listened to, heard, and understood by a caring professional who is committed to helping them flourish, not every child is afforded this opportunity. So if you have the privilege of giving your child this wonderful opportunity, why wait? Why not give your child this gift right now by reaching out to me so that together we can determine how I might be of service to you and your child?

Therapy for adolescents with high functioning autism

Improve adaptive functioning and interpersonal skills

Does your teen have high functioning autism or asperger’s syndrome? Do they excel in school but often feel isolated and have a difficult time establishing and maintaining relationships and could use some guidance in this area? Maybe they have a hard time adapting with independent living skills and need a little support with planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing? The truth is, managing the daily aspects of life is hard; finding meaningful connections is incredibly hard; and even harder is navigating complex relationships, especially when our lives are inundated with school and social demands. It’s quite easy to put all our energy in the areas we excel in and feel comfortable with, while neglecting the areas that are more challenging for us, such as relationships and self-care. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients to live a fuller and more balanced life by helping them to develop effective ways to respond to life’s challenges and cultivate meaningful relationships. I believe that everyone has areas in which they can develop and grow in, and sometimes, getting help in these areas is exactly what we need in order to live a more fulfilling and balanced life. I also believe that this kind of growth and self-development can be experienced by everyone. It first begins with authentic connection, which starts with you taking the first step to connect with me. Now as a parent you might feel uncertain about contacting me. I want to reassure you that this is a normal experience. Parent Coaching & Executive Functioning Coaching

In addition to providing therapy for adults, I also provide parent coaching and executive functioning coaching for high functioning individuals. You might be wondering what high functioning individuals is? It essentially refers to a person who is generally well adjusted and managing the various aspects of daily life but has a particular life challenge (e.g. challenges with setting healthy boundaries with adolescents, organizing and planning, etc). Coaching is targeted, time limited, and focused on creating a short term goal and action plan to meet that specific goal. Similar to therapy, your progress depends on many factors (e.g. level of commitment, openness, and engagement during and in between sessions, etc.). While coaching is similar to therapy, therapy specifically focuses on treating clinical issues (e.g. depression, anxiety etc.), developing coping skills, and working through underlying causes of emotional distress to improve overall wellbeing and functioning.
